With the development of the society and the fast update of knowledge, people are required to study more. People in the society should make effort to keep studying and advancing by themselves if they don't want to lag behind. Online education is a good way to update the knowledge of all people because it transcends the limitation of time, space and on-time communication of traditional educationHowever, online education itself has a problem: though online education institutes have spent a lot on it, the effect of online education is not very apparent. It is thought that the reason is the excessive rigidity of online courses. Because of rigidity, the content of the courses is not what the students need, and students feel not interested in study. To solve the problem, online courses should be made flexible and to satisfy the needs of individual student. From the macro-perspective, a conclusion has been made that new relative policies are in need if the flexible instructional ideology is to be embodied in the online courses. From the micro-perspective, the reconstruction of instructional content, instructional process, instructional methods and instructional evaluation is advanced in order to construct flexible online courses. From the technology-perspective, based on an example of an online course of optics, rules of how to construct online courses are devised and the strategies of how to adjust and control courses are also designed. With these above, dynamic individual study path is achieved. It is believed that the exploring and research of flexible online courses, give a new way and solution to design and construct online courses, which will make students study more effectively.
