| From the 1980s, people's concepts of marriage and family have been changed greatly with the impact of the marketing economy. Single-parent families increase year by year. Single-mother families are nearly 90% of all the single-parent families in China. This fact shows that the appearance and increasing of single-mother family has become an inevitable social reality, and single-parent family has changed form "private trouble" to "public issues".The research on single-parent family is uncomprehensive in China, especially on the parenting-style in that kind of family. This researh will find out the parenting-style of the single-mother, and searh for the factors influenced in the inspect of the single-mothers. This researh want to provide a way to understand single-mothers on the base of listenning their stories. Single-moter's parenting-style will be decomposed into three parts in this reseach, they are: (1) wether she can control her temper successfully when their child around or not; (2)wether the interactive between mother and child are effective or not; (3) how they take care of their child, the requirements of their children, and the way of rewards and punishments refered.After interviewing 10 single-mothers in 4 different communities, this research comes to several conclusions as bellow: 1. Most of singal-mothers consider bringing up the children as a great issue and they try their best to perform this obligation. 2. According to the interview material, single-mother's parenting-style could be induced into 4 types, they are autocratic-type with week attachment and strong control of their children; authoritative-type with strong attachment and strong cntrol of their children; dotage type with strong attachment and week cntrol of their children; noninterference type with week attachment and week cntrol of their children. Single-mother's parenting-style mostly concentrated between authoritative-type and dotage type. The difference between single-mother's parenting-style and the full family parenting-style is the attachment reinforced and the control weakened, which the latter are between autocratic-type and authoritative-type. 3. Divorced single-mother are more easily obtain helps from her orientated-family on parenting, but widowed single-mother are more likely to be given the support and assistance from her husband's parents and relatives. Former social resources are apt to come to widowed single-mother. 4. Differences not only exist between single-mother's parenting-style and the full-family mother's parenting-style, but also exist between widowed single-mother's parenting-style and divorced single-mother parenting-style: most of widowed single-mother choose authoritative-type, while most divorced single-mother choose dotage type. 5. The more respect singal mother receives, the more help she will gain and the more positive means of bring up children she will take up. on the contrary, she is more likely to take up negtive means. 6. As to the every concrete single family, the means of mother's bringing up children are influenced by many factors and it is a dynamic process. 7. Parenting-style is formed based on understangding between mother and child and adjustment to each other.
