Research Strengths Perspective Involvement In Cases In Urban Widowed Single Mother

With multiple family and social structure, the single-parent family may be caused by various factors, such as divorce, death of the spouse and so on. So the number of single mother is increasing in our country, and the trend is to continue to grow. Widowed single mother as a main form of single mothers, she has its own particularity, so the paper is going to focus on this group.The existing literature studies and discusses the problem mainly from the following aspects:concerning on the divorced single mother family; the children problem of single-parent family, such as education, psychological status, psychological characteristics, etc; the negative aspects in single mother and focus on the negative effects caused by single to mother and her children, such as the problem of economy, employment, children’s education. Most studies view it as a problem, and the single mothers are seen as vulnerable groups;there’s a little study in intervention of social work on single mother, but the theoretical research is relatively more.Therefore, this paper will be study a case that intervention of a typical city widowed single mother based on the strength perspective and the case is intervened by the author.Firstly, the thesis introduces the background information of the case and the negative effects caused by the death of her husband, including psychological loneliness, economic difficulties, mother-in-law and child problems in family. Secondly, the author analyzes the advantageous characteristics of the client. Not only she has its own advantageous characteristics in cognition, emotion, and behavior, but also has the external resources, including the help of relatives and community residents’ committee.Third, introduce the idea, process and methods of intervention. Ideas include empowerment, resilience and wholeness. In Process, author helps the client clarify the problem, so that she can know that she is no problem, but she is discriminated by single and because of single and bring some problem in life. To deconstruct further the problem, we should focus on how the client deal with the life and mining advantage trait from her experience; to construct the meaning, we should mine the possible advantages behind problem, so let the client know that she can also live well in adversity, because adversity can stimulate the resilience of a person; to reconstruct the life, we should let the client on the way to regression and live a normal life through the intervention in psychological, economic, family relationship. The methods consist of establishing an equal fellowship, using empathy skills, making full use of all the resources.Then, we evaluate the process of the case.Finally, summarizing the thesis and reflecting from two aspects:social worker and researcher. I hope that can provide reference for future research.
