The paper explored children's educational problems in poor urban families from the perspective of social exclusion. Through field survey on Changsha City minimal assurance household cases, the paper examined the disadvantaged situation the poor children faced and the social exclusion they suffered in education attainment, analyzed the main reasons behind these problems, and revealed the negative effects of educational inequality.Based on literature review, through case study, the author concluded that the poor children suffered multiple disadvantages in educational attainment. These disadvantages were reflected in the social exclusion they suffered in school access, study conditions and learning process, which are seen as different processes, but with closely interrelated dynamics. A great many reasons resulted to the educational exclusion. The lack of domestic capital and irrational family education model are the direct causes. The unequal distribution of educational resources and inadequacy of education aid from the government are structural factors. The educational exclusion can give rise to many negative consequences. For individuals it could deprive people of their rights and opportunities, for families it could activate generational reproduction in poverty, and for society it could result in polarization of education and reproduction of class structure. To effectively overcome the educational exclusion, a multi-support system should be constructed including the state, society and family. The government should strengthen the reform of the education system and promote fair distribution of educational resources. Further more, social protection system and education aid policy should be improved. The parents of poor families should also renew education concept and adopt scientific methods of education.
