China has been modernized from top of the last century and, till this century, reached a peak. Modernization has brought great changes into our society, such fields as economy, political, culture and life etc, the above have developed with modernization's scientific, advanced and open shinning lights. This is an age of co-existence of science and culture. With the influence of modernization, Chinese course reform has stepped into a brand-new stage as well. The goal for Chinese teaching is no longer meeting the requirement of"intelligent"as the past, but requiring students'personalities to develop all-round way and caring about the person as individual, which is a pursuit of culture.Prose teaching is an important part in Chinese teaching. Classical ones not only make students master writing and rhetoric in a relaxing way, but also let them taste the real feeling and beauty between the lines.《Moonlight Over the Lotus Pond》, a representative prose for Chinese teaching material in middle school stage, which has been selected onto text nearly half of the century. For the features itself, different readers have got different ideas at different stages. For teachers,《Moonlight Over the Lotus Pond》is not only a teaching material for prose writing, but also a hot researching topic on its theme. Based on different readers have got different ideas at different stages, and,《Moonlight Over the Lotus Pond》is a representative prose in Chinese teaching materials in middle school stage, this paper chooses the prose as the research objective, through researching the differences from text book, teacher's reference book and teaching practical activities, this paper tries to reflect how has prose teaching developed in the process of China modernization and embody the value orientation from"intelligent"to"humanity".The clue in this paper follows the development of history, divided into four researching stages: 1977-1985, 1986-1992, 1993-1999, 1999-now. Through reviewing the changes in《Moonlight Over the Lotus Pond》's teaching text and teaching methods in the past thirty years, the paper believes prose teaching has developed from"intelligent"to"humanity". Society development is one of the factors, which has affected prose teaching in middle school stage. People's thought becomes open when society environment becomes relaxed and peaceful, even though there are some limiting factors, individual personalities could be received a better concern than the past. The paper'research is dynamic, moving with the time and tasting the changes and developments from piles of historical materials.
