A Textuary Research On The Section "Sustainable Development Of The Region" Of Four Sets Of Geography Pilot Textbooks Under The New Curriculum Standard

High School Geography Curriculum Standard (Experimental Version) was promulgated by Ministry of Education in April 2003, instead of the Geography Syllabus used since 1949 in China. In the new curriculum standard, the basic principles, the aims, the structure, the contents and the evaluation of the curriculum has changed a lot. For example, the course of "sustainable development of the region", which used to be the selective course, was written in Geography 3 (required course). It is suggested in the new curriculum standard that the method of case analysis should be used in teaching or compiling geography textbooks, which is a new challenge for both the teachers and the editors. Ministry of Education proposed the policy that various presses and organizations can compile the textbooks. Many presses compiled several sets of high school geography textbooks according to High School Geography Curriculum Standard (Experimental Version), four of which, compiled by People's Education Press, Sino Maps Press, Hunan Educational Press and Shandong Educational Press, have been passed the evaluation by the Evaluating Committee for Middle School Textbooks and have been used in 15 provinces.On the basis of absorbing the other experts' researches and reviewing the past, present and future tendency of geography textbooks' changing in our country, I made a comparative research of the four sets of the textbooks in "sustainable development of the region", in several aspects, the relationship between the curriculum standard and the textbooks, the selection of the cases, the style of the cases, the presentation of the cases and the flaws. In the research, I discovered the cases of the "sustainable development of the region" in Geography 3 (required course) of different presses met the requirement of both the curriculum standard and the case studying. Meanwhile, different presses tried to explore how to compile the cases and form their own style. Because of the short period of the case studying used in geography educaiton in China, the difference of the cases in the textbooks reflects the different views in compiling the cases. So, I also discussed the different compilation of the cases and some problems worth being discussed.
