The internet provides new vitality to the distance education and has become the highlight in the world, as the rapid development of the ICT and multimedia technology. Most of universities and training institutions are now striving to carry out online teaching.As an important education resource, the web-based course is the prerequisite for the smooth development of online teaching and is the most influencing factor on the quality of online education. How to design and develop it to make use of its potential and strength, making it the quality learning environment for the distance learners? This question has become the highlight in this field, and this article only focuses on asynchronous activities in the web-based course.First, the author analysis 168 asynchronous activities of 38 web-based courses from CRTVU with content analysis method, including activities type, media forms, design elements of activity and so on, so as to describe the design current of the activities. Basing on this, the author make a survey of the current situation about learners' ideas, participation and its reasons, adopting online questionnaires and QQ interviews.This study found that the asynchronous activities in CRTVU web-based courses are still in the initial stage, having three characteristics as follows: 1> the number and the type are rich, but make less use of the advantages of the net; 2> the lake in the systematic design and the elements; 3>learners generally like activities, however low participation because of many reasons.In view of the above questions, the author provided four suggestions in the hope that it can be hopeful to the design and development of the web-based courses and the smooth development of asynchronous activities: 1> giving full consideration to the actual situation of learners to plan the activities reasonably; 2> carefully design activities to make sure active participation of learners; 3>teachers should provide effective support for the good completion of activity task.
