Face Competition Mechanism In The Daily Life Of Village

This study mainly takes the Y village in the south of Jiangxi Province as an example, obtaining the field data through participant observations and in-depth interviews. In the perspective of daily life, this study inspects face competition behavior of the village, analyses the results and the settlement mechanism, in order to explain the formation of face competition and its settlement mechanism from the village's own logic.The study shows its points as follows. Firstly, face is multi-layered and complex, mainly reflected as a competitive relation. The contents of face competition may be different in different areas and different times, so does the intensity of face competition. Secondly, the villagers would have or lose face in the face competition. This and its competition are a normal and efficient method to protect social solidarity and collective sensation of the villagers. Thirdly, the alienation of face competition destructs the solidarity and the order of the village. Fourthly, the face is a means of social control, which includes mass opinion, labeling, damn lies and slanders, etc, to safeguard the social order in the face competition. Fifthly, different types of villages have different layer, results and intensity in face competition, which can be explained by farmers'agreement and action units, local culture and social acquaintances.The researches of Local Social Psychology on the face are abstract and conceptual. This study is an empirical research, finds the logic of the social lives of villages based on the research of the group lives, and extracts some group life propositions on face competition. It is different from the study paths of Local Social Psychology.
