Rivers,W.M.(1981), a famous linguist, considered mastery of enough vocabulary was the key element of managing language successfully. We can neither listen, read, speak or write effectively nor convey our ideas clearly or communicate with others fluently without enough vocabulary. Whereas, we spend a great deal of time on English vocabulary teaching and learning in English class in junior high school, but it is not as effective as we expected. How to teach vocabulary effectively, cultivate students'abilities in thinking and using leaning strategies are issues for discussion. And the following is the same teaching objectives of English teaching and bilingual teaching: students know eastern and western cultures, students form good learning habits and effective learning strategies, students enlarge their vocabulary size. Students enlarging their vocabulary and getting learning strategies should not depend on English class solely, which should be achieved in many other ways as well. Bilingual teaching is a good way to extend academic vocabulary, to communicate in English and to obtain learning strategies.The paper tries to explore an effective way to help students be aware of the importance of vocabulary learning and bilingual teaching, learn vocabulary actively, choose the proper vocabulary learning strategies alternately and enjoy the process of learning. Try to provide an operational strategy of English vocabulary acquisition through bilingual teaching for reference.With a case study, survey and literature study the author analyzed the factors which affect students'English vocabulary learning and the current status in bilingual teaching. The author collected data by means of observation, interview, discussion, questionnaire and test. The present study aims to find answers to the following research questions:(1) What attitudes do the students have to bilingual teaching?(2) Are there any effective bilingual teaching models to improve students'vocabulary competence?(3) What kinds of bilingual learning strategies could improve students'English vocabulary learning effectively?By contrasting the experimental class and the control class, the author draws the conclusions as below: (1) The students'motivations and beliefs on bilingual learning and vocabulary acquisition are developed continuously through bilingual teaching.(2) The students'English vocabulary competence is greatly enhanced through three bilingual teaching models: drop-soakage models, partial immersion models and immersion models.(3) Bilingual teaching helps students form effective bilingual learning strategies of English vocabulary enlarging: Words guessing in bilingual class,"Network of key words"learning, Vivid IT approaches, Meaningful bilingual materials reading. The students'vocabulary size is enlarged greatly.It is proved that bilingual teaching is a good way to improve English vocabulary teaching, enlarge students'vocabulary and form vocabulary learning strategies when it is implemented rationally.
