Teacher Education Curriculum is not only the soul and characteristic of teachers' college, but also the foundation for the professional training of in-service and prospective teachers, especially significant for those of primary education. Therefore, the reform and development of teacher education curriculum in teachers' college is posing a practical and urgent problem for the administration.First of all, this study documents and defines the research on teacher education in the context of life-long professional development, and further analyzes the challenges and new requirements brought about by the teacher professional development and elementary educational reform, in order to clarify the theoretical basis and the background of the study.Secondly, the combination of theoretical and empirical research, qualitative and quantitative analysis is used in the present study. The research starts with the investigation of the teacher education curriculum in Kunming Teachers' College (located in the capital city of Yunnan Province, southwest of China) and expands to Yunnan Normal University, three municipal teachers' colleges and two upgraded teachers' colleges. The aim is to picture the current situation of the teacher education curriculum in normal universities and teachers' colleges in less developed areas like Western China, and make a scientific, objective and in-depth analysis of the positive and negative factors concerning the reform and development of teacher education.Finally, the nature of teacher education curriculum is further elaborated. And the study proposes reshaping our understanding, reconstructing the goal with the guide of the theories of life-long education and professional development of teachers, and fulfilling the reform in a systematic way. The present study discusses the measures of reform in terms of educational curriculum, implementation and evaluation in these universities and colleges in order to achieve the integration of the various factors.
