To a large extent, textbook can reflect the understanding the general gender role in the society, so textbook is a very important carrier in social gender role culture, especially Chinese textbook, because its ideas, feelings and images have effect on students' understanding. Through the statistics and the analysis of the female images in the textbook we use, it is obvious that the discrimination against women is very serious. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the sexual equality and democratic and modern way of thinking in the Curriculum Reform when the Chinese textbooks are revised.This paper discusses the female images in the textbooks for Shanghai high school students(s version) and the textbook for the Curriculum Reform II in the perspective of a woman teacher who works in the front line of Chinese teaching. The paper also discusses the sexual discrimination in our textbooks. The aim is to explain the deep meaning of gender education in Chinese teaching in high school.There are five sections in this paper. The first section is the introduction which sets forth the question briefly, defines the relative concept and also introduces the meaning and the present situation of this research. The sceond section is making some statistics according to people's gender roles, and classifing and analyzing some of the female images so as to conclude the selection criteria of the female image in the textbook selection. The third section is making comparative analysis in accordance with the reference books and literary comments on the image of women. Reference books neglect the existence of women to a large extent and deepen our understanding of the wrong image of women. So the writer take this comparative analysis to help us to understand more fully of selecting of the female image in the textbooks. The fourth section is about the understanding of textbooks' compiling and recommendations. For instance, attention should be paid to the gender ratio when compiling the textbooks. We should be concerned more about women's multi-faceted, women's status, the social roles of women and the sense of the times. The last section puts emphasis on the basic conclusions of the study, raises the outlook of the prospects for reform of the textbooks. This paper also points out the defects in the study.
