In the process of foreign language learning, motivation has been considered to be one of the main factors in determining learning outcomes. The author has found that quite a few students do not have a high motivation in English learning. So he has done some research to find out some effective strategies to stimulate these students'English learning motivation. The subjects are 270 students from 3 junior high schools in the city of Changzhou, whose English is quite weak and whose parents are both Chinese peasants having moved to work in city. To investigate these students'English learning motivation, the author has designed a questionnaire by applying Dornyei's motivation theory and Gardner's definition of foreign language learning motivation, as well as by referring to Qiu Weiqin's(2005) questionnaire and Feng Bing's(2008) questionnaire. The window excel software was used for data analysis. The results provided by the factors analysis indicate that about half of these students have a weak English learning motivation and the average of the intensity of the total students'English learning motivation is around the middle intensity. The author has also analysed the result of each item investigated in the questionnaire and has then reasoned out some causes of the results. Based on linguists'motivation theories and the author's own teaching experience, he has found out some strategies to stimulate such students'English learning motivation.
