Teachers are those who teach students knowledge and solve problems for them as well. Teachers play an important role in passing down human civilization. The profession of being teacher is regarded as one of the professions which are with great stress, and university teachers are no exception to the rule. The intensifying competition of the market economy brings opportunities as well as challenges to higher education. Changes from both the internal and external environment in conjunction with the special nature of university teaching profession have caused great stress on teachers in both teaching and researching ,both physically and mentally. Moderate stress has a positive effect, but too much stress will produce certain negative effects. So analysis of the source of stress, effects of overwhelming stress on them and the strategy of how to deal with stress are of great significance.This paper specifically focuses on University teachers. A questionnaire has been conducted on 198 teachers from 6 colleges in Henan Province. The results are categorized by gender, title and different academic and professional backgrounds, which enables further investigation on college teachers'overall senses of stress, features of their reaction to stress and the sources of stress. The results show us that college teachers have been under greater stress. Occupational stresss have resulted in negative impacts on teachers and teaching, especially on their psychological health. Stresss due to different occupational backgrounds of the teachers have similarities, but also have different features. Finally, the stress of college teachers can be divided to 2 parts, namely, external stress and internal stress.The questionnaire, domestic and international research on teacher's stress and analysis of stress on college teachers in China suggest that when Chinese college teachers are facing stress they should, on one hand, apply self - adjustment, changes of the cognitive, emotion regulation, self-improvement and other means to improve themselves and the relationship between the environment to achieve the harmonious condition. On the other hand, society and schools should take the needs of university teachers seriously, create a good environment, provide training courses on mental health, and make improvement on all aspects for the better development of University Teachers.
