Values are an idea system that people takes the demand of oneself as the dimensions to cognize the importance. Protected values are an idea system that the individual or the community resist trade-offs with other values. It is core and the bottom line of the value system of people. Protected values evolve from those moral norms that pay more attention to the behavior than the behavior result, so it is a stable value with direction and guidance of the individual or the community. Affected by the social history culture, values have the characteristic of ages and the history inherits. The traditional cultural core value already becomes the psychology and the individual personalities of the Chinese nation. So this study discussed protected values from traditional cultural. It can enrich the research contents of protected values, promoting the Chinese traditional culture. It also did the cushion for the further education values, having the important theories meaning and realistic meanings.Following the principles of combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, adopting the method of the literature analysis, the questionnaire and interview, the writer collected the contents of the protected values in the Chinese traditional culture. According to the definition and the standard of protected values, this study formatted the initial questionnaire. Carried on the test to 425 people, the study got four dimensions thought the factor analysis. After the reliability and validity analysis, this research compiles the formal questionnaire of university students on protected values in Chinese traditional culture. Then using the formal questionnaire, we investigate 1000 university students to understand the identity characteristic of university student on protected values in Chinese traditional culture. Finally, we make use of the society demographic analysis to understand the identity characteristic of different community.The findings of this research show:(1)There are the opposite contents of the protected values in Chinese traditional culture. we usually use " principle","bottom line"," the morals that can't disobey"," the matter that absolutely will not do" and so on.(2)The measure adjusts to evaluate the cognition characteristic of university students on protected values in the traditional culture. Through the item analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and society demographic analysis, we got good signs.(3)According the factor analysis, the questionnaire is divided into four dimensions: Community attitude, oneself accomplishment, ethical relations idea, interpersonal emotion.(4) The university students relatively approve towards protected value in the traditional culture, but don't approve some old ethical relations ideas in traditional culture. In four dimensions, oneself accomplishment was got the most approvement, the next was interpersonal emotion, then the community attitude.(5)There were significant differences among gender, grade, major and location about the identity characteristic of university students on protected values in Chinese traditional culture.In addition, the study found that contemporary college students generally lack the knowledge about traditional culture, which should arouse the attention of education, strengthen the traditional cultural values of contemporary college students in learning and training.
