Task-based language teaching contributes to student self-learning, to improving their ability of using language to communicate with each other, and to strengthening their interest and confidence in studies.The New English Curriculum Standard issued by Ministry of Education of China states that the duty of English education is to inspire and foster the students' interest in learning; to help them clarify the aims of English learning; to develop their abilities of self-learning and cooperative learning; to form their effective English learning strategies; and to develop their integrating skills of using English. It demands clearly that primary and junior school English courses emphasize on the development of the students'integrated language competence aiming at the students'interests, life experience, and cognitive level, advocates the learning methods of experience practice, participant, cooperation, communication and the approach of task-based teaching, making the process of learning language the one that develops the students'active sensibility, thought and experience and promoting the students'cross-culture consciousness and the ability of studying independently.This thesis makes a research into the application of task-based language teaching in a junior high school. It integrates theories of task-based language teaching with junior high school ESL classroom teaching and the request of the New English Curriculum Standard. It is found that the students'thinking is active and they are brave to express their views and active to participate in class and have strong cooperation consciousness in the task-based language teaching classes.
