Obstacles And Breakthrough In The Building Of Specialization Of Counsellors In Colleges And Universities

The issuing of the Proposals for further Strengthening and Enhancing College Students' Idealogical and Political Education by the Central Party Committee and the State Department once again draws public attention to the building of counsellors in colleges and universities. The difficulty of the building lies in the inadequate specialization as is shown in the low quality of the team,the lagging of the organizational buildup,and the imperfection of the system and the mechanism.Therefore,at present,the important task of strengthening the building of a specialized team of college counsellors is to analyze the problems and causes that exist in the specialization buildup and to seek a route to specialization.By means of literature induction,comparison,qualitative and quantitative analysis,and proceeding from the connotative meaning of specialization,this paper makes a full analysis of the obstacles that exist in the specialization buildup and their causes,probes the basic rules in the work of counsellors,and,based on the reality of China's college counsellors and the specialized experience of the management of student affairs from advanced countries and regions, focuses on the removal of those obstacles with a view to seeking a route to the development of counsellors' specialization,which bears Chinese characteristics and which is easy to operate.Hence,this paper puts forwards five proposals to remove those obstacles:realizing a scientific division of work,creating a scientific mechanism;perfecting the building of the subject,cultivating specialized talents;perfecting in-service training system,promoting the specialized quality of counsellors;consummating the building of the system and mechanism, providing guarantee for specialization buildup;developing vocational setup,accelerating specialization buildup.
