A Study Of Enhancing English Writing Competence Through Integrating Writing With English Newspaper Reading

English writing teaching has become an important project of secondary English teaching in the new century.However,writing is the weak point during the English teaching in our middle schools.Students' writing is inefficient,what they write is lack of main ideas,without basic text structure,full of Chinglish sentences. How to improve students' writing ability appears to be one of the important issues of English teaching in middle schools.With the English newspaper reading applied in English teaching,more and more teachers attempt to apply English newspaper into English reading teaching,but English newspaper reading applied in writing teaching is still rather rare.The study aims at improving senior students' writing ability through the integration of English newspaper reading and English writing.The present study adopted the experimental study.Questionnaire and interview research approaches were employed,and pre-test and posttest of writing tests were also conducted in the study to compare the results.The results of the data analysis show that it is feasible and effective to apply English newspaper reading in writing teaching.The teaching mode of integrating writing and newspaper reading can strengthen students' sense of learning achievement and enhance their writing interest and confidence.Another finding indicates newspaper reading can broaden students' background knowledge, promote their using idioms and accurate and coherent sentence patterns,reduce Chinglish expressions in writing;and therefore enhance students' writing ability.The author hopes this study would provide some methods of writing training by integrating writing with English newspaper reading and arouse more teachers' further study on this project.
