In the National English Curriculum Standard(2001),to help students develop the comprehensive competence of English has been considered as one of the teaching purposes in senior middle schools.In addition,the formation of the comprehensive competence of English is based on the integrative development of language skills, language knowledge,learning attitudes,learning strategies and cultural awareness (National English Curriculum Standard,2001).Thus,it is necessary to check if English teachers in senior middle schools have the ability to implement learning strategy instruction in regular classes.Thus,the present research intends to first explore the existent problems that prevent teachers form implementing learning strategy instruction in class and then try to put forward some solutions for teachers to improve their capability of teaching learning strategies in class.The present study seeks to solve the following problems:1.What is the status quo for senior middle school students' use of learning strategies?2.Do middle school English teachers incorporate learning strategy instruction in their class teaching?3.If not,what existent problems prevent them from implementing learning strategy instruction in class?4.How can they solve those problems?On the basis of questionnaires and interviews,it is found that due to the lack of time and resources,teachers do not have appropriate opportunities to improve their capability in teaching learning strategies.And after class,teachers seldom write down teaching reflections and make their own portfolios.As for the cooperation between colleagues,they only observe the class and sometimes discuss how to teach a certain language point.From the perspective of school authorities,they do not pay much attention to quality-oriented education but still focus on exams so that teachers and students are busy at preparing exams and have no time to improve their teaching and learning capabilities respectively. Although the school have the organization of teaching and research group,teachers have not made full use of it because of the limitation of the activity forms.Thus,the author thinks that there are also a lot to do to improve teachers' ability to teach learning strategies from the perspective of teacher self-development,the cooperation between colleagues and the contribution of the school authorities.
