Stanford University was established in 1891when the industrial economy and the West Regions were developed rapidly. In order to cultivate the practical talents that were required necessitously by society, Stanford University formed its model of talents cultivation which is different from traditional one gradually under the concept of practical education.With the development of economy, the coming of the knowledge economy requires the talents with new inner qualities structure. So Stanford University innovated continuously and adjusted its model of talents cultivation in time basing on insisting the traditional advantages. It accomplished the transformation from the model of talents cultivation in the industrial economy period to one in the knowledge economy.As one of the top youngest universities that are focused by worldwide nowadays, Stanford University attracts attention by its high-caliber model of talents cultivation. Its concept of practical education, high-standard aim of cultivating social leaders, setting of integrative disciplines and specialties, elastic teaching system, modularizing curriculum system, multiple talents cultivation modes and multivariate talents evaluation system etc., have formed the features which makes production, study and research integrated in form, and combines excellence and extensiveness together in connotation It can be an example for our universities to reform the model of talents cultivation in China.Thinking back to the model of talents cultivation in Chinese University on the basis of study the one of Stanford University, we can find out that the traditional model of talents cultivation which teaches students with knowledge of each discipline has took by the throat students'personality and creativity. This makes the talents are poor in capacity of scientific research, practical ability and innovation ability. The model of talents cultivation which is too specialized makes the scope of our talents'knowledge is narrow. All these make it unable to meet the need of our society required compound talents with both wide scope of knowledge excellent quality. So I suggest that we should transform our traditionally education concepts and establish modern education concepts, make our objective of talents cultivation very clear, adjust the structures of our institutes and departments and optimize the setting system of sciences and specialties, and establish multiple talents evaluation system to promote the innovation of our model of talents cultivation actively.
