In the 21st century, the American Library Association (ALA) has planned a multimillion-dollar project for the implementation of the mission of the "21st century capability and literacy" and the promotion of the Information literacy education. And lodge that the "Information literacy is a basic human right of life-long learning ", "Information literacy is a prerequisite for people to join the information society ". The rapid development of modern medicine and the change of medical model require that every doctor should not only have solid basic skills, but also be able to apply the latest medical knowledge and technology in social services. Faced with the challenges of the information age and the development of health, medical institutions must attach great importance to the cultivation of information literacy and information creative talents.[Objective]Through the study of the information literacy education theory and practice domestic and international and the investigation to the status of information literacy education of Chinese medical students as well as literature retrieval teaching of medical schools in China, clearly know the status of Chinese information literacy education, learn from the advanced experience of foreign countries, give a countermeasures to enhance the information literacy of medical students in China. Based on these, to construct new model of information literacy education of China's medical students, to promote the development of information literacy education, improve the information literacy of medical students, to make them become the innovative talents with life-long learning ability, so that they can be better serve for the medical cause.[Approach]â‘ Literature Research.A comprehensive review to the literature related on information literacy education domestic and international, in particular to online information literacy education, information literacy education projects and the empirical research.Give a definition of medical students'information literacy, to understand the differences of information literacy education between at home and abroad.â‘¡Questionnaire Survey.Designed two questionnaires.Investigation to the status of information literacy education of Chinese medical students as well as literature retrieval teaching of medical schools in China.Design the questionnaire from the students'information awareness, information ethics, information capacity, according to the U.S. information literacy standards in high education. Survey medical students in reading of five medical colleges and universities using random sampling methods.A total of 750 questionnaires were issued from the scence, effective recovery of 731 copies, effective recovery rate of 97.5 percent; Investigation of literature retrieval teaching of the 28 medical institutions.The questionnaire was designed from three major aspects such as the basic situation, actuality of teaching and teaching reform. Taking into account the level of teaching, design the content of courses, construction of teaching materials, teaching methods in four levels such as information management, non-information management, seven/eight years, post-graduate. Distribute 30 questionnaires to the 30 higher medical institutions by letter and E-mail, 28 valid questionnaires recovered, the effective recovery rate of 93 percent.[Result]â‘ There is a gap on evaluation criteria of information literacy education, online information literacy education, project of information literacy education, information literacy education empirical between China and foreign countries. Information literacy education abroad is of a more comprehensive, systematic and profound in theoretical, more pragmatic and fruitful in practice than that in China.â‘¡Information awareness and the capacity of accessing to information of medical students has increased, mastered skilled information technology, but with a low comprehensive information capacity and information moral as well as legal concept.â‘¢There is a great progress in teachers, teaching, practice conditions, teaching reform and other aspects of literature retrieval, but there are also problems such as lack of teaching content level,low level of education reform, imbalances between schools.[Conclusion]â‘ Strategy to enhance information literacy of the medical students in China: with change of the concept and powerful policy and good information environmental, reform the course of literature retrieval and teaching methods, while strengthening cooperation between schools as well as faculties and the librarians.â‘¡Put forward the information literacy education model of our medical students: with the effective resources support of the Library, in the school develop multi-level, various forms of information literacy education while strengthening the cooperation of different schools. Multi-level education is that different grade students take on different level teaching, implementing continuous phased education. Various forms of education refer to "three class room" + "one network".â‘¢Use technology of WEB2.0 to conduct online information literacy education is feasible.
