[Objective] By a comprehensive review of the literature related to the theory and practice of information literacy education at home and abroad, and analysised of the meaning of information literacy of medical students, as well as empirical research on online information literacy instruction at domestic and foreign colleges, and given a comparative analysis of the problems existing in online information literacy instruction in Chinese Universities. After learning from the advanced experience abroad, based on E-learning and constructivism educational theory, as well as in conjunction with Chinese traditional teaching experience in document retrieval and characteristics of medical disciplines, this paper explored the construction of online information literacy instruction platform of medical students in China. The platform is expected to put an end of the backwardness of information literacy education in our country, solve many problems existing in document retrieval course, meet the learning needs of medical students at any time and anywhere, and finally improve their information literacy.[Methods]①Background research. Through the study of the literature related to information literacy education at home and abroad, especially empirical research on the online information literacy instruction and information literacy education of medical students. Then specified the connotations of information literacy education of medical students as well as E-Learning and constructivism educational theory, and fully understanded the theory and practice of the information literacy education and online information literacy instruction at home and abroad.②Online survey. Through the online survey, the author realized the status of online information instruction in the college at home and abroad, especially for the medical students.③Comparative analysis. Given a contrastion to the information literacy education at home and abroad, and analysised the advantages and disadvantages of our colleges online information literacy instruction, then this paper used the overseas dvanced experience for reference, combined with the actual situation of our country, builded the online information literacy instruction platform for medical students in china.④Delphi. Invite experts to present their views about the content architecture of the platform through E-mail or face-to-face interviews, after having identified the initial course content of online information platform. The fields of the experts refer to medical informatics, clinical medicine and library. Then gathered their advice, revised and identified the contents of the platform content framework. In addition, after author having designed the functional framework of the online information literacy platform, asked suggestions from the experts about relevant technical level, in order to determine how to select a technology for the development of the platform.[Results]①Information literacy education to medical students is mainly built on the basis of the document retrieval course at present in home, but it can't meet the demands of the students to learn at anytime and anywhere , because of the course election is low, the teaching time and places is constrainted, teachers is lacked and so on. So,it resulted in medical students'information literacy competence is low overall, and reflected in the following areas: awareness of information is weak, information capacity is low and the laws and regulations relevant to information ethics is poverty .②There is a wide gap between online information literacy instruction in China and abroad. First, there are few institutes establishing a platform and not universal; Second, the contents are lack of systemic and single function, they can't meet the personalized learning needs; Third, low degree of openness, many sites have IP address restrictions, and can not meet the off-campus students'learning needs, etc.[Conclusion] Take E-learning and constructivist theory as the theoretical basis of education, use the foreign advanced experience of online information literacy instruction for reference, combined with the main problems existing in the current online information literacy instruction and medical specialties to explore the framework of online information literacy instruction platform suitable for medical students in China.①In the layout, it is complete and composed by the core part (learning content, level teaching, online selftest, interaction centers, related resources) and the auxiliary part (about us, a summary of glossary, help, feedback, Print).②In teaching design,it is comprehensive and composed by "an overview of information literacy", "the variety and effect of information sources", "the medical information retrieval , evaluation and utilization", "Information ethics", "basic information and communication technology."③In the view of function, it is maturity and main to make a selftest, an online interaction between teachers and students or between students and students.④In the technology, we selected the ASP technology which is used to make a dynamic web page and database technology,so it is updated easily.⑤In the open, the platform is free to visit for anybody at any time and anywhere.
