The faculty compensation system of American higher education,in terms of practice, or to the theory, has been a centuries-old experience. In solving practical problems and theoretical study, more than in the forefront compared to us. Regarding the American higher education, oneself already has a very comprehensive and effective real compensation system. Research the faculty compensation system of American higher education, the deepening of China's higher education system and pay and personnel system reform, and stability of teachers, college faculty members to mobilize the enthusiasm and innovation to enhance the quality of teachers to ensure the quality of personnel training, enhance the future development of schools and competitiveness, has important theoretical and practical significance.This research synthesis utilized the literature, history research, comparative research and case study analysis method.The purpose of this study started from the following sections:The first part take the salary system's correlation theories as a starting point, elaborated the faculty compensation system's rationale of American higher education from the salary economic theory and the management science theory two stratification planes.The second part has carried on the historical review to faculty compensation system's development of American higher education. Separately after early survey, World War II the compensation system's development and the 1970s US higher education management's development three time intervals have carried on the exhaustive introduction.The third part has carried on the analysis to faculty compensation system's present situation of American higher education. The faculty compensation system is closely related with the type employed in the compensation system. In the view of compensation system, the Contract Salary System and Single Salary Schedule are the main two salary payment systems in American higher education system.The fourth part has discussed the compensation system's five major characteristics as well as the salary compensation's trends of development of American higher education, and on this basis, selects the American famous research university Cornell University, conducts the case study to its compensation system.The fifth part through uses for reference to the faculty compensation system of American higher education, unifies our country University teacher compensation system's present situation as well as the existence question, proposed our country University compensation system reform strategy.
