Information society is learning-oriented. Lifelong study has become the theme of the age. With the development of information industry, study environments are much more open, diversified and colorful. Efficient learning requires the improvement of every social member's learning ability, and emphasizes on learners' subjective initiative. Self-directed Learning (SDL) is a new way of learning developed rapidly in recent years in the educational field, which fully embodies learners' subjectivity and activity, and is the core of learning abilities. Colleges are the cradle of talents. And students in the college are the backbone force for social development. It's quite necessary to train and improve their abilities of sustainable development and self-directed learning, which, at the same time, is the key to social sustainable development. Through combing relevant literatures and self-made questionnaire, this research has made a survey of college students in Guizhou province, aims at getting to know the present situation of college students' self-directed learning and explore methods and strategies on this basis for promoting college students' self-directed learning.This paper consists of five parts.The first part is the foreword, which introduces the origin of this study, clarifies its aim and meaning, and put forward research methods and route. The second part is a summary of information technology environment and Self-directed Learning. Starting with defining concepts of information technology, information technology environment and Self-directed Learning, it makes a further explanation on the meaning of Self-directed Learning under the information technology environment, and analyses the necessity and feasibility of Self-directed Learning with consideration of reality.The third part is the theoretical basis of Self-directed Learning. Through introduction of Subjectivity Education Theory, Humanistic Learning Theory, Constructionist Teaching Theory, and Multiple Intelligence Theory, it puts forward theoretical basis for the Self-directed Learning.The fourth part is to survey and analyze the present situation of college students' Self-directed Learning under information technology environment. Taking Guizhou province for example, the study has grasped college students' characteristics and rules of Self-directed Learning, and analyzed its cause through self-made questionnaire and sampling investigation and analysis.The last part focuses on the Self-directed Learning development strategies for college students under the information technology environment, which puts forward Self-directed Learning strategies from the perspective of learners, and teaching strategies for promoting Self-directed Learning from the perspective of educators and teachers.
