Student assignment is the assignment about the progresses and changes of individual student in the process of study. It includes the assignments of students'knowledges and skills,study methords,emotional attituds. Because of the influence of the traditional education opinions , there are a lot of problems in our student assignment. The disfunction of assignment leads to the ignorance of the main role of the students. Too much quantify of the assignment standards leads to the negligence of the indivudual differences. The assinment methord is too simple, and examination has becom the only methord of evaluation. In january 2006 , the state council made《The Decision About The Reformation and Development of The Basic Education》, issued and implimented the Tthe Outlines of The Currilum Reform in Basic Education (Draft)》.《The Outlines》puts forward clear requirements to the curriculum reform, it says"change the traditional assignmet which stress too much on selection, promote the development of the students,teachers and teaching", since then , as a new way of assignment, developmental student assignment has been known and uesd by more teachers and researchers.Delelopmental student assignment is an evaluation idea and system which aims at promating the development of the students. The assignment content is diversified, not only emphassizes the students'scores but also cares about the development of the other qualities and potentials of students. The main evalutor is diversified, attach more attenation to the students'role in assignment. The assignment methord is diverfied, besides of tests, there are also other methords such as observation and portfolio. It cares both the results and the process which integrate the formative assignment and summative assignmet.As a language , English is not only a subject , but also a tool for commute which is used by more and more people. Its practical character makes it different from other subjects. Carrying out developmental student assignment in English teaching agrees with the characteristics of morden English teaching, and it will fully promote the development of students. Then what is the real situation of the impliment of developmental student assignment, what success we have got and what problem still need to be solved. In other to know more about this, the writer of the article made an investigation about four junior middle school in Huludao, and made a comparation based on the attitudes,subjects,contents,and patterns of assignment. After the analysis of the data, we found that there are some common problems between the two kind of junior middle school: 1. The subject of assignment is sole, students and their parents are eliminated from the assignmet. 2. The contents of the assignmet is one-sided, it only care about the assignment of the knowledge. 3. The methords of assignment is single, test with paper and pen is the only way of assignment. 4. The standard of assignment is too much quantified which leads to the ignorance the individual differences. To deal with these problems, the writer put forward some picecs of advice:1. To understand the connotation of developmental student assignment, and promote the knowledge of the subjects. 2. To standardized the management systems, and enlarge the influnence of developmental student assignment. 3. To raise the enthusism of students and their parents, and realize the diversification of the subjects. 4. To strengthen the research of the assignment strategies, and improve the subjects'assignment skills.
