The problem of quality and quantity of bilingual teachers is one of"the three bottlenecks"which restrict the quality of bilingual teaching in China's University. Appointing foreign teachers is generally thought as an efficient way to solve the problem by researchers, moreover it also presents the fast development in recent years'university bilingual teaching practice. Therefore, there is some certain practical significance in the study on the effectiveness of foreign teachers'bilingual teaching in China's university.Case study is mainly used on the foundation of combing the related literature in the research. And a foreign teacher's teaching has been selected as the case who gives the postgraduate lectures in a university in the city of Chengdu. Then the effectiveness of the foreign teacher's teaching and of the students'study is analyzed.From the perspective of"the study on effectiveness of teaching is not solely to judge the existing teaching, but to focus on the promotion of future teaching", main conclusions haved been drawn as follows: Firstly, foreign teacher's teaching is highly effective according to the bilingual students'high degree of satisfaction and to the high validity of basic integrant parts of the foreign teacher's teaching process. Secondly, the main causes which hinder the enhancement of teaching effectiveness are found out in the case as follows: (1) The bilingual students'studies anticipation is obviously different from the teaching goals; (2) Oral interaction between the bilingual teacher and students seems scarce in their bilingual class; (3) Bilingual students'cognition strategies in class are quite different among those who are in different levels of English listening comprehensions.The present paper consists of five parts: The first part is introduction, in which such things are introduced as the origin of this research, the choice of research techniques, the establishment of study object, as well as the way of gaining materials and the procedure of material arrangement.The second part is the foundation of the research, in which the core concepts are defined, the main questions are raised, and the basis of bilingual teaching theory has been laid by means of revising the existing literature.The third part is the main body, in which the reality of the foreign teacher's teaching and students'studying is described mainly by following investigations, such as lecture observation, factual record, interview of the teacher and students, collection and reorganization of bilingual teaching material. Therefore solid realistic foundation is laid for further study on the effectiveness of foreign teacher's teaching.In part 4, the effectiveness of foreign teacher's teaching is evaluated from such two aspects as the analysis of the case and the theory of bilingual teaching. Also, the primary causes which hinder the enhancement of the effectiveness are pondered.In part 5, the main conclusions of the research are presented as well as some advice is proposed for the problems to be resolved.
