Research On The Causes And Countermeasures To The Inadequacy Of Chinese University Students' Practical Ability

We have entered the age of knowledge-based economy, whose nature is innovation and whose base is practice. Under the background, as would-be constructers, university students' practical abilities have been taken seriously by universities in a great number of countries.On the basis of relative literature achievements, the author has first put forward the definitions of practical ability and university students' practical ability and the dimensions of the latter; then the author has made a questionnaire according to the dimensions of university students' practical ability and chosen 520 university students in six universities of Jiangxi province to be investigated in order to get information about the condition of their practical abilities. The result shows that they are inadequate in practical ability, especially practical ability in major .The author has analyzed the causes from universities' standpoint because the paper is aimed to help universities further the reform of education, teaching and management and better develop practical abilities of university students. And the author holds the view that some factors from universities stop practical abilities from forming, such as weak practical teaching, formal social practical, etc. At last, the author has put forward six countermeasures, that is, to strengthen practical teaching, to conduct service learning, to strengthen scientific training of university students, to raise university students' ability of life management and to pay attention to individualized instruction.
