The paper gives a description and analysis on the status quo of political identification of contemporary students, based on a survey made by the Chongqing Students'Union, which received almost ten thousand copies of questionnaires designed for this purpose. After taking factors of society, school and students themselves into consideration, the paper recommends several counter measures in order to solve the problems found in the research. The author advises innovate the existing education mode, expand political participation, maintain mainstream political ideologies, consummate the social policies, and contribute multiple efforts to build a good political environment for students. At the beginning of the paper, the author introduces the basic conception of Political Identification and the important significance of research centering on youth students'political identification. The general definition of Political Identification is a sense of feeling and belonging people have in the social and political life. Contemporary students are the builders and successors of Socialist Construction with Chinese Characteristics. The status quo of their political identification is not only related to the healthy growth of next generation but also to political stability and development of overall China. Therefore, from the angle of building a socialist democracy and strengthening the leadership of Communist Party of China, it is of important practical significance to understand the existing status of youth students'political identification, make in-depth analysis of issues encountered in the topic and propose appropriate measures to solve them.Chongqing Students'Union conducted the survey in over 30 large and medium-sized high schools and colleges in Chongqing City, issued 10,000 questionnaires and recovered 9997 copies. The survey was characterized by well-meaning purpose, large investigation volume, detailed and accurate data, thus gave relatively scientific conclusions.Based on the results of the survey, the author of the paper make a preliminary analysis on the political identification of the contemporary students. The survey shows that the mainstream of political identification of the contemporary students is positive. The majority of youth students recognize the political ideology formulated by the Communist Party of China, recognize the achievements of reform and opening up policy, agree with the state and party policies, endorse the leadership of the Communist Party of China and have full confidence in the prospects for China's development. That means that they have high political and state identification. The survey also found some worrying problems in respect of the topic, mainly reflected by the phenomenon that some students have a vague understanding of in-depth political theories, a utilitarian tendency in their political belief selections (for example, an impure motivation of joining in the Communist Party), and to some extent the existence of "political indifference"on them as well as some students have religious beliefs conflicted with Marxism. The author takes many factors into consideration to make a systematic analysis of political identification of the contemporary students. Factors influence over political identification of youth students including social development, educational system in school, family environment and specific experience of different individual students. It is natural that personal characteristics of youth students are immature due to the fact that they are in the middle stage of formatting ideals and political mental and have limited experience and knowledge. Especially during the social transition period identified by the conflict of old and the new concept, these problems encountered in the survey are easy to understand. At the last of the paper, the author point out that in order to solve these problems and enhance political identification of students, we should work towards unchaining these constraint factors discussed above.Firstly, innovate ideological and political education mode in college and high school to strengthen the socialist ideals. Secondly, improve the channels of political participation to expand political participation. Thirdly, maintain mainstream political ideologies to intensify publicity campaign. Fourthly , construct a good social democratic environment to strengthen democracy and improve people's livelihood. Finally, contribute multiple efforts to build a good political environment for students.Meantime, we should pay attention to coordinated and integrated use of these ways. Society, school, and families should work together to make joint forces to improve the political identification of students, to direct them in establishing a correct world outlook, values outlook as well as outlook on life.
