Concerning the decreasing quality of American Higher Education due to the situation of "highlighting research and deprecating teaching" on campus, Ernest L. Boyer wrote the book titled "Scholarship Reconsidered:Priorities of the Professorate" in 1990, and originally elicited the term " Scholarship of Teaching" which later was broadened as "Scholarship of Teaching and Learning" by Lee S. Shulman,.They both propose that teaching be put in a position equal to research, which is the theme of Shulman's theory of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. After exhibiting the biography of Shulman and listing the sources of his theory in Chapter One, this thesis mostly focused on Chapter Two about the main body of the theory in(1)broadening the Boyer's theory of Scholarship of Teaching, which tells us the distinction of two group of important definitions as Scholarship of Teaching and Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship of Teaching and Scholarly Teaching, and (2) How to Teach, which describes the standard of excellent teacher, the challenges confronting liberal arts and solutions towards challenges, and (3) How to Learn, which depicts us Professing the Liberal arts and the "Problem-based Learning method" and (4)How to practise, which is explained by two levels of both School and Teacher. Chapter Three concerns the main reference for the development of Chinese Higher Education.
