"Cooperative leaning is one of the largest educational reforms nowadays."asserted by Ellis, A.K.& Fouts,J.T., the famous American education critics. This quotation comes from their new book The Research On Educational Reform. One of the goals of basic education reform is to change the fact of students' passive learning, and to train the students' ability of exchange and cooperation, which was emphasized in the Outline of the Basic Education Curriculum Reform (Test), issued in June 2001. At Present, cooperative learning has already become one of the main ways of learning, which is being actively recommended and promoted in all middle and primary schools in our country. In order to organize the students to practice effectively and to promote the change in the ways of teaching, I have studied the concept, the correlation theory as well as practical application about cooperative learning, after consulting large quantities of materials, documents and experimental research about cooperative learning. Putting the practical application of the concept of cooperative learning in P.E. into practice, I propose teaching basketball to senior high school female students by means of cooperative learning, in which the study of experimental teaching is carried out. In the experimental research, 40 female students in Senior One in my high school are subjects—the experimental class, while another 44 female students are references—the control class. The basketball lessons in the experimental class are taught by means of cooperative learning, meanwhile, those in the control class are taught by means of traditional reception learning in a large class. Comparing the test data of the Texas Social Behavior Questionnaire and the assessment of senior high school students' level of interests in sports learning, as well as the students' physical quality and their basic skills of playing basketball before and after the experiment, it can be proved whether the students being taught by means of cooperative learning will have an obvious effect in the improvement of interests in sports playing, social interaction as well as physical quality and basic skills of basketball. Three months' experimental research leads to the following conclusion:1. Teaching high school female students basketball by means of cooperative learning allows students to develop the skill of communication, understanding and cooperation through frequent explanation and exercise with each other, to improve their self-esteem and self-confidence in interpersonal relationships, and to increase their social ability with the fully training of their own language, thoughts and social skills.2. Teaching high school female students basketball by means of cooperative learning allows students to become masters of their learning activities. Female high school students have established a new type of friendship and cooperation, which attracts their attention in Physical Education directly, and increases their enthusiasm for learning sports significantly, and also reduces the negative interest in sports learning.3. The learning evaluation of cooperative learning approach in basketball teaching, based on the range of progress of individual and group performance, can guide the students to lay their learning focus on continuous improvement and mutual support, which promotes the initiative of high school female students in sports learning, and increases their enthusiasm for sports participation.4. Under the atmosphere of cooperative learning, high school female students can develop their physical fitness through learning and training their basketball skill, which has promoted their physical development in a certain degree, but not very obviously, for physical enhancement is such a complex process.5. Comparing to traditional learning in a large class, which focuses on reception learning, cooperative learning approach contributes to the effective enhancement of students' level of learning motivation, as well as the distinct progress of female students obtaining better basic skills of basketball playing.
