An Empirical Study On The Attraction Of Manga For Chinese Middle School Students

With the rapid development of productivity, intangible service products are drawing more and more attention of people. Now the cartoon market is more like a cake with an increasing size. However, most of this cake in China is enjoyed by Japan. Based on this fact, this paper uses questionnaires to perform an empirical study on the attraction of Manga for middle school students in Hefei, as well as giving well-founded suggestions to the Chinese cartoon creators, who are the driving force of Chinese cartoon industry.The empirical study of this thesis includes three parts. First, histograms are used to display the ranks of different Manga from the middle school students'view. Secondly, based on these statistics, the relation between the preference of cartoons and the genders, grades of the students is analyzed. The results show that students'attitudes towards different cartoons have quite a little relation with their genders and grades, while referring to some certain cartoon, there are many different preferences. Finally, the absoluter frequency and absoluter frequency difference per student are used to analyze for the factors affecting students'choices of cartoons, with the considering of their genders and grades.By the results of questionnaires, CONAN, INUYASHA and NARUTO, girls cartoon creator CLAMP, as well as Spirited Away directed by the famous anime director Hayao Miyazaki are chosen for deep analysis. The results indicate that compared with Hollywood cartoon products, although there are less strict restrictions on the process of Manga producing, the special mould-making styles, movement styles and strong exhibition of local region cultures make the significant features of Manga.Finally, there are some suggestions given by the author to cartoonist. The up and down story plots, the charismatic characters, sincere emotions, deep meaning in simple language, the proper positioning and the local characteristics of China in the works, are the most important factors for a popular cartoon work.
