Xinjiang is a multinational area with forty-seven nationalities. There are 20.951.900 people living in Xinjiang (Xinjiang Statistical Yearbook, 2008), in which 10,226,600 are female. The majority of minority nationalities is Uygur with the population of 9,650,629. The population of Han nationality is 8,239.245. In order to obtain the data on the level ,the form and the motivation of Xinjiang Uygur an Han women who participate in sports activities from the perspective of body-building and athletic cognition, and to analyze the related factors which affect the women to take part in sports activities, this paper probes into the aspects of Xinjiang Uygur and Han women aged from 16 to 65 who take part in sports, and explores the new train of thought, new visual angle and new means, based on documents, questionnaire surveys, interviews and mathematical statistics. This paper puts forward the body-building countermeasures about activity contents and service ways suitable for Xinjiang Uygur and Han women so as to construct appropriate modes of body-building.The study shows that 30.21 percent of Uygur women and 48.73 percent of Han women aged from 16 to 65 in Xinjiang participated in sports activities once or more than once in 2008, and that 69.79 percent of Uygur women and 51.27 percent of Han women never took part in sports activities. The general level of Han women was higher than that of Uygur women involved in sports activities. In 2008, the athletic population of Xinjiang Uygur and Han women was 14.46 percent and 35.73 percent respectively. According to the proportion of the women who took part in sports activities at least three times a week, the Uygur was higher than the Han. The athletic population of Xinjiang Uygur and Han women in 2008 was lower than that of the whole nation in 2000.With growing older, in 2008 Xinjiang Uygur and Han women who took part in sports activities had a tendency to decline. The general level of Uygur women participating in sports activities was lower than that of Han women , who was lower than the national level in 2000. Xinjiang Uygur and Han women taking part in sports activities mainly included students, teachers, researchers and retirees. From their educational backgrounds, the women with higher educational level and lower educational level took less sports activities. The sports values of Xinjiang Uygur and Han women remain to be improved. There are bigger deviations in their sports values and physical exercise. They prefer to take exercise in free public places. They mainly walk, run and play badminton with their friends and colleagues, or by themselves. This paper makes some proposals. Strengthen organizing and guiding community and village and town sports activities. Reinforce the publicity to non-sports population. Increase the utilization ratio of sports arenas and facilities. Speed up the development of sports instructors. Strive to realize training, management and service a coordinated process. Cultivate a batch of sports instructors to help people take exercise scientifically. Make the national body-building more scientific.
