In the research about classroom foreign language teaching, classroom interaction is a very important point in the field of Second Language Acquisition. Interaction is the collaborative exchange of thoughts, feelings or ideas between two or more people resulting in a reciprocal effect on each other. Classroom Interaction refers to the harmonious resonance of teaching and learning, through which students are enlightened to discover and in turn they force teachers to stimulate, with teachers as leaders and students as subjects. A lot of foreign researchers, from different angles, have made some theoretical researches about the importance and pedagogical significance of implementing classroom interaction.Based on theoretical and practical considerations, this thesis aims to illustrate classroom interaction from the aspects of arousing pupils'interest, improving their achievements and developing their communicative competence in English learning. The author lists some important guidelines on the organization of interactive classroom activities and discusses methods of increasing the efficiency of primary school English teaching. The thesis also aims at drawing people's attention to the significance of classroom interaction in primary school English classrooms and helps to build a better perspective for future primary school English teaching.As English teaching is gradually valued by the whole society in recent years, English has become a compulsory course almost in every primary school. Discovering an effective English teaching method has become the concern for English educators in primary schools. This thesis is conceived and designed under the basic of teaching practice.The paper consists of four chapters.The introduction presents the purpose and significance of the study.Chapter One is the literature review, expositing the status quo of primary school English teaching in China and previous research on classroom interaction abroad and in China. Chapter Two offers the definition of classroom interaction and discusses the theoretical bases of interaction from the perspectives of psychology and Second Language Acquisition.Chapter Three is the design of research methods. After making some classroom records, the author carried out the experimental study on the interactive classroom English teaching and analyzed the specific implementation details, including the goal of the experiment, methods, procedures and data collection. In order to explore the interactive classroom English teaching in applied research, the author had a teaching experiment in Qingzhou Shiyan Primary School. Two classes from Grade Three were chosen. One was the experimental class taught by using interactive approaches. The other was the control class taught by using traditional approaches. Sixty students from the two classes participated in this study (Each class affords 30 participants). The study lasted for four months (September 2008 - December 2008)Analyzed from the class observation, interactive activities actually aroused the students'interest. According to the analysis of the results of the examinations, it is proved that the scores of the experimental class are much higher than those of the control class. The conclusion is interactive activities play an important role in improving the interest of studying.After the completion of the experiment, the author conducted a large-scale questionnaire survey. Seen from the result of the pieces questionnaire, students showed great interest in interactive activities. Most of them can enjoy the activities (especially games) their teachers organize. Teachers'using interactive teaching generally and using interactive teaching in various teaching stages can promote students'English learning.Chapter Four gives the analysis of the experiment results, as well as puts forward the implications for English teaching and the limitations of the study and suggestions for future research. Interactive English teaching is suitable for pupils and is in line with law of the logic. It can perform well to improve pupils'communicative competence and stimulate pupils'interest in learning English greatly. English. More extensive research should be carried out. At the same time, it requires teachers to have a broader range of knowledge and ability to control the classroom situation.The conclusion sums up main points of the thesis.In short, classroom interaction promotes a combination of cognition and affection essentially, and is the key to stimulate pupils'interest in learning English. Classroom interaction guides the students to being involved in teaching activities actively, so that each student has opportunities to express themselves fully. It can effectively increase the efficiency of primary school English teaching and improve the quality of teaching. It lays a foundation for achieving the primary objective of primary school English teaching and should be made further research and extension.
