The concept of fashion has sometimes been like a star twinkling in the remote distance and sometime been so whimsical, seemingly within touch but without a handle. Research on this subject has since long relied up in theories and the senses and experience of researchers. This paper aims to quantify the originally rather abstract concept of fashion through questionnaire-based surveys, with the focus on the fashion index attributable to Beijing residents. At the same time, a full-spectrum interpretation of fashion is attempted, in an effort to clarify this concept. Categorical summaries and studies are presented for sampled Beijing residents, on the basis of different index characteristics, along with background analysis of the reasons for the existence of such characteristics. The establishment of Beijing as a fashion metropolis requires not only support from fashion recourses of the rest of the world but also our understanding of the meter-reading of ourselves, which has been exactly what is lacking. It is out this very reason that this article tries to do an anatomy and sum-up so that Beijing can be better prepared for the transition of fashion. Faced with the problems that are likely to occur in the course of the transition, what we are expected to do is appreciate is its basic trend and lead it toward a more effective functionality for the harmonized and orderly development of the society.
