It is universally acknowledged that vocabulary takes a dominant position in language and plays a critical role in language teaching. However, English vocabulary teaching is time-consuming and the teaching results are not ideal, which has a great effect on the English learning in senior high school, when students finish mastering the English grammar required by the teaching syllabus. For this reason, it has become extremely important and necessary to help the students in senior high school settle or alleviate the problem of vocabulary learning, to improve students'skills such as English listening, speaking, reading, writing, translation and so on, and to lay a solid foundation for their English learning.Based upon the analysis of the current situation and the importance of English vocabulary in foreign language teaching, this paper introduces the Lexical Chunk Approach into English vocabulary teaching in senior high school in China. The purpose is to help students develop flexible skills of learning and using vocabulary and promote their English learning in senior high school.A questionnaire survey is used before the teaching experiment in the paper. It aims at investigating students'vocabulary and the situation of English teaching and learning in senior high school and is carried out among some students in Senior Grade 1 and Senior Grade 2 in Chuangxin Senior High school in Chengcheng County, Shaanxi Province. Students in the author's two classes,Class7 and Class 8, in Senior Grade One, are chosen to be the subjects in the teaching experiment. SPSS 16.0,the Statistical Package for Social Science, is used to analyze the data from the teaching experiment between the Lexical Chunk Approach and the traditional vocabulary teaching methods. It proves that the Lexical Chunk Approach helps to promote English vocabulary teaching in Senior High School and the purpose of the study is achieved.
