Research Of Homosexuality As Political Symbol

By crisscrossing the essentialism and constructivism theory of homosexuality in the context of western and Chinese research theory with the research of the history, culture, law and religion of homosexuality in the perspective of diversified culture, this dissertation aims to reveal the meaning of homosexuality, as the politics symbol, in contemporary era and to analyze the possibility of homosexuality surpassing heterosexuality. Based on the current research of homosexuality in China and western countries, it begins by analyzing the two-theory system, namely essentialism and constructivism and then probes into the deep level of human's consciousness, to seek the potentiality of making homosexuality as political symbol.This thesis, on the basis of essentialism and constructivism theory of western research on homosexuality, cites queer theory, women's rights theory, postcolonial theory, psychoanalysis theory, esthetic theory and other popular advanced theories since 20th, to discuss a tender subject---homosexuality. In order to seek the universality of the homosexual and complete liberation for them, the author tries to apply the research to the life reality of the homosexual and avoid mechanical explanation with pure theory. And the research is not only restricted to the intragroup of the homosexual, namely individual case study, but also done on the fact that they are part of the wholly human being. Combining longitudinal study with cross-sectional study, this thesis will seek the theory resources and historical change of homosexuality, and also the possibility of homosexuality surpassing heterosexuality under the contemporary vision and its future development.The preface mainly introduces the development of the definition of homosexuality and its current research in both China and western countries.The first part deals with the essentialism theory of homosexuality. To begin by introducing the history of homosexuality being oppressed and resisted from the middle century, this part analyzes the research theory of homosexuality under the essentialism theory of sex, aiming to show different attitudes towards homosexuality respectively by the insiders, namely the homosexual and the outsiders, namely the heterosexual.The second part concentrates on the constructivism theory of homosexuality. By introducing the attitude towards homosexuality by ancient Greece, Rome and China, this part discourses the constructivism theory from western homosexuality study. And based on this point, the possibility of putting forward other constructive theory is further analyzed.The third part discusses the potentiality of making homosexuality as political symbol. It points out the homosexuality, as the political symbol struggling in marginal culture and surpassing heterosexuality and brings forward the probability of breaking with the conventional idea to homosexuality. Being political symbol, homosexuality shall lead to new life style and interpersonal relationship.The conclusion part looks forward to the potentiality of homosexuality construction and its future development in the background of overwhelming AIDS in contemporary era.
