Having 56 nationalities, China has formed a higher national entity in the historical development with these 56 nationalities: Chinese nation. Therefore, ethnic identity in China has two levels: One is self-national-identity; another is the Chinese ethnic identity. The Chinese ethnic identity is a kind of concrete social identity, which means people who considers himself a member of Chinese nation has a identity consciousness and emotional attach oneself to it. The development of Chinese ethnic identities have significant influences to nowadays college students'patriotism and the national cognitive evaluation. With the continuous globalization and the infiltration from the western countries in the aspects such as ideology and cultural values and attitudes, the original idea of national communities, values and life styles are changing. Therefore, the ethnic identity of the students is taken seriously by the society.This research take globalizing international society as the background, basing on Tajfel and Turner's social identity theory, and the three stage development model which the young people's ethnic identity by Phinney as theoretical foundations. According to the four-dimensional frame including self-ethnic identity, ethnic evaluation, ethnic emotion and cultural practices, a questionnaire is made base on the data sorting, gathering and ordering. In the 325 students of Shenyang University of Technology, Liaoning University, Northeast University and Liaoning Normal University who take the questionnaire,24 students were chosen to have a further inquiry. This investigation give a deep inspection to the condition and the trend of the present college students' ethnic identities in China, also the analysis to the relationship between ethnic identity and self-ethnic-identity and the influences which are take on students'nation, families, mates and circumstances. The research draws the following main conclusion:1. It is a positive correlation related with the general college students'ethnic identities and the four-dimensional frame. Self-ethnic-identity and Chinese ethnic identity are both holding a good reliability and validity. In the frame, evaluation and emotion are higher than other.2. There're two features in the investigation:high in cultural identity and traditional ethnic characteristic identity, low in political and economic identity and present identity. It explained that under the influences of the western ideology and cultural values and attitudes some students have formed a lopsided mode of thinking and criticizing. Their ethnic opinions trend to be weakening.3. There're still a part of students holding a narrow view of ethnic identity.4. According to the data comparison, college students'ethnic identities are different from ages. The tendency rises. The seniors are higher than the freshmen. That shows ethnic identity is a gradual process.5. Parents'education level and the nation have influences to college students'ethnic identities——which are not obvious. Also the ethnic identity is featured under certain circumstances.Finally this thesis discussed the above conclusion, analyzed the characteristic of present college students'ethnic identities. The thesis projects that attention should be paid to improve the education in ideology and politics, and the manners of students. With the fully use of the course in ideology and politics, we will strengthen the education in ideology and politics, extend the historical and cultural education and promote the self-consciousness and select ability in culture. With the help of important traditional festival and the typical social event, we can launch the practice of ethnic education to enhance the quality of globalization and form a open and merged attitude of identity.
