Lifelong education is the inevitable trend of the development of education in the future, and higher lifelong education plays an extremely important role as an organic part of the whole lifelong education in the lifelong education system and the modern national education system. Korean universities have accumulated a wealth of experience in the process of promoting lifelong education in the past decades, and the education of Lifelong education center of university is especially well-developed. Lifelong education center of university is an independent life-long education institution set up in colleges and universities. It is based on the Social Education Act of 1982 and has a certain size and appearance as a college. The recent building of the open education system, such as the import of the Credit Bank System, the implementation of the Registration by Part time System, the expansion of distance education, has further promoted the development of the higher lifelong education and has played a pivotal role and has achieved a high success in the construction of Korea's lifelong education system. However, although China's higher adult education has made a great contribution to the development of the society, there are still many problems existed in the aspects of guiding ideology, teaching methods, educating contents, management mode, etc. Korea's higher lifelong education has a strong referential significance to the development of China's higher education. This paper uses historical research method, document investigation method and comparative research method to survey and analyze the development, current situation and characteristics of Korea's higher lifelong education, in order to sum up the experience and lessons of Korea's higher lifelong education and to provide reference for a better role China's universities could play in the building of lifelong education system.The main part of this paper consists of three portions:The first portion defines in detail the concept of the higher lifelong education, its characteristics, and its role in building up a learning society. The second portion describes the developing history of Korea's higher lifelong education. This portion has mainly carried out a relatively detailed analysis and summary for the developing history and the current situation (setting conditions, education ideas, education contents, educational methods, management modes, etc.) of Lifelong education center of university, and has summarized the characteristics of Korea's higher lifelong education. The third portion puts forward the enlightenment of Korea's higher lifelong education for China through the analysis of some problems existed in China's higher adult education:(1) To give concerns for individuals and build up the people-oriented education idea; (2) To promote the legislation relating to higher adult education, improve the self-discipline of higher adult education; (3) To expand the scope of the education targets; (4) To emphasize equally the development of both diploma education and non-diploma education; (5) To pay attention to openness and collaboration in order to expand and optimize education services. (6) To build up an open system of lifelong education.
