Study On The Influences Of Non-mainstream Culture On Contemporary College Students

Non-mainstream culture has, exiting a long time, influenced human beings and the development of human society all the time. Nowadays, especially with the development of globlization, infor-matization and marketization, college students, as the pioneers of the age, are having a much closer access to the non-mainstream culture. Through the various images of the non-mainstream culture heatedly discussed by people currently, this paper is to explore the hidden historical inevitability, traits and laws of non-mainstream culture. With Marxism dialectical materialism, the paper analyzes the causes and influences of non-mainstream culture in an objective and dialectical way. Meanwhile, based on learning from the experiences foreign countries have in handling the non-mainstream culture, the paper will provide some suggestions about the countermeasures on solving the influences brought by non-mainstream culture in China. Objectively and dialectically evaluated, non-mainstream culture does have some positive impacts on human beings. For instance, it helps the stimulation of their curiosity to explore the unknown spheres, the enrichment of their knowledge, the improvement of their capabilities of independent thinking and speculation as well as the development of the sense of innovation. It makes sense that non-mainstream culture not only stands for the trend of human society development and the driving force of human progress, but also the gene-variation fragment of human society, and even the origin of human creativity. Therefore, non-mainstream culture provides a new focus and developing direction for human social life and brings new vitality into social thoughts. However, we should not neglect the negative influences brought about by the non-mainstream culture on students'sense of morality including the gradually biased values and twisted consumption concepts as well as the flighty attitudes towards life by degrees and the little by little fading moral consciousness, the negative effects on their intelligence indicated by the resistance to learning and the handicap of interpersonal relations, the negative impacts on their physical and mental health which is shown by the declining psychological endurance and body health as well as the harmful effects on their aesthetics such as the strange and intractable taste, vulgar life interests and the sentimental kitsch of entertainment. Therefore, under these negative influences, college students of the current time are embodied with these characteristics:they have strong sense of times while low sense of responsibility, great eagerness to take a hand in everything while low capability of solving practical problems, higher sense of identity while low ability to tell right from wrong, high sense of individuality while low sense of collectivity, and strong personality whereas weak endurance.Through the analysis of the measures adopted by other countries like America and Korea to cope with influences of non-mainstream culture, this thesis suggests that we should, in close combination with China's basic national conditions, establish a linkage mechanism that combines the government, colleges, families and individuals together. On the one hand, the government should perfect a responding mechanism to maintain the dynamic stability and balance of the culture system, strengthen the publicity of core socialist values to make the mainstream culture more attractive, and realize the comprehensive application of legal, ethical and other regulating means. Meanwhile, colleges and universities should play their roles to the full by establishing college students'discipline system and equipping students with correct value. One the other hand, parents are advised to change the traditional family education mode to consciously cultivate children's sense of independence and responsibility, because with the method of family tolerance, families can help their children amend their conducts. What's more, as for college students themselves, they should try to improve their abilities of practice and to distinguish right from wrong.With the advancing of non-mainstream culture explorement, we should guide the non-mainstream culture to play a positive role by those means such as rejecting, limiting, assimilating and absorbing, which is based on the foundation of solidating the state of mainstream culture. Just in this way can the nutritious ingredient in cultural area integrate into studying and life of college students, and can the construction of a harmonious Socialist society get the greatly safeguarded.
