CPC Central Committee and State Council "Proposal on Further Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Education of College Students" clearly states: "College students are very precious human resources, the hope of the nation and the future of the motherland. To strengthen and improve ideological and political education, improve their ideological and political quality, and transform them into builders and successors of socialism with Chinese characteristics have significant and far-reaching strategic significance to the full implementation of national rejuvenation through science and Talent, to ensure our country is always invincible in the fierce international competition, to ensure well-off society, to advance the grand goal of socialist modernization, to ensure the prosperity of the socialist with Chinese characteristics. " Correct and scientific faith education for college students is the key to achieve this major strategic objective.This paper is based on the explanation of the religion's origin and development, religion's nature, religion's functions, religious faith and its characteristics; the current international and domestic environment as a background to the study; the current status of college students' belief as the entry point to analyse; the Literature Analysis, questionnaires and logic analysis as the research methods. The paper includes six elements:The first part is the interpretation of the background, significance, domestic and international literature review, in order to provide the precondition of follow-up study. The second part is the interpretation of religion and religious faith, specifically divided into: root and development of religion, religion's nature, religion's functions and religious faith and its characteristics. The third part: take some college students of Kaifeng City, Henan Province as the survey to investigate the religious status of contemporary college students, to analyze and explain the basic situation of the object under investigation, the findings and analysis of the religious status of contemporary college students and the characteristics of religious phenomenon of college students. The fourth chapter were based on the findings, analyze religious faith's positive and negative effects to contemporary college students and the significance of faith education for college students. It also presented the problems which exist in faith education for contemporary college students. Part V, tried to put forward some new possible ways according to the faith education status of college students, such as: a clear understanding of the world's religious situation; correctly grasp the characteristics of college students; establish scientific educational concept of belief; adhere to scientific and effective principles of faith education; enrich the content of faith education for college students; to build a high-quality teachers for faith education; optimize environment of faith education for college students; take a variety of educational methods and means. Part six is the summary of the full paper as well as the outlook of the research prospects.
