American marriage and family had changed dramatically during the 1960s to the 1970s. The main reasons are the American social values change, the impact of radical social movements as well as laws, economic and policies change that related to marriage and family. The developments of American marriage and family showed the advance also revealed some problems.This paper consists four parts.The first chapter reviews the history of the American marriage and family development before the 1960s to the 1970s.It mainly discusses and analyzes the development and reasons of American marriage and family at three stages which are 18th century to the middle of 19th century, half of the 19th century to the early 20th century and the second half of the 20th century.The second chapter explores the features of American marriage and family development in the 1960s to the 1970s, mainly from married, single, divorced, anti-traditional marriage patterns, fertility, single parent, stepchildren, and DINK families these aspects.The third chapter considers the reasons of American marriage and family development in the 1960s to the 1970s including the American social values change, the impact of radical social movements as well as laws, economic and policies change that related to marriage and family.The fourth chapter is about the impacts of American marriage and family changes in the 1960s to the 1970s. It describes specifically three positive impacts and three negative impacts that American marriage and family development and changes bring to the America society.
