The Contextualization Of Social Work Values

After the reform and opening up and with China's great social, political, and economic development, social problems have been emerging, which proposes requirements to a professional-social work. It is gratifying that the present China has realized this problem, and has made a series of efforts to develop social work: promulgating and implementing the "National Occupational Standards of Social Workers"; building a large social work personnel; on the 2008 "two sessions" the NPC CPPCC members proposing that the government should increase the ranks of social workers in support of the building and strengthening the training of professional social workers, which provides a powerful system platform for the development of social work in China. In recent years, the trend of globalization has been increasing,and the social work from the west are gradually going into the Chinese society. As a new occupation from west social and cultural background, wether has a foothold to survive and develp in China is a question that needs time to test. The author believes that "contextualization" is the inevitable choice, and because the value in social work is the "soul", the contextualization of social work values is essential and even the most important.The research idea is to collect information through field research and documentary research methodology, to use the successive approximation to law or edit data analysis, and from a sociological perspective to study the contextualization of social work values. Making a summary and presentation of the content of social work value (foundermental value and operational value), analysing the traditional Chinese culture and current background of the social work value, studying the collected data through the field research, describing and analying the application status of fundamental and operational social work values, the author finally analysed the factors that effect contextualization of social work values and made a conclusion.Through a field study of two professional social work agencies and a community in Jinan, with the data collected from 17 professional full-time social workers in the semi-structured interview, the author described and analyzed the application status of the fundamental and operational social work values. The application status of the fundamental values of social work:social workers had a grasp and cognitive on the basic social work values; the consciousness of the fundamental values of social work was not enough. The application status of the operational values of social work:social workers maintained and pursued the social work values;The relationship between actual and profession social work values had a major effect on the operational social work values; salaries was one of the factors for the social workers upholding social work values. Finally, the author made a sociological reason analysis of the social work values contextualization from three aspects:the traditional socio-culture, the modern culture and the social system and structure.
