The theory of values clarification is an important school in the contemporary western moral education. The theory proposed series of specific and effective educational methods for the values education. At present, China is at the crucial period of the Reform and opening up and the social transition. The coexistence of multiple values has become a common phenomenon gradually, while the values education of university students is confronted with new situation and challenge. Therefore, it is significant to learn and refer to the achievements of the theory and the practice of western moral education critically and explore the new model of the values education of university students so as to solve the problems of the values education of university students at the period of social transition.This paper firstly describes the main points of the theory of values clarification, in which the advantages and the disadvantages of the theory of values clarification are analyzed. Secondly, the paper describes the necessities and feasibilities that the values education of university students refers to theory of values clarification at the period of social transition by analyzing the current situation of the landslide of the values of university students and the main problems of the values education of university students during social transition as well as by comparing the resemblance of the social situations for the values education of university students at the period of social transition and the prevailing of the theory of values clarification. Finally, the paper focally discusses the ways and means to refer to the theory of values clarification at the basis that we should adhere to our dominant values system. And by integrating the advantages of the theory of values clarification and our traditional educational theory of values, this part aims at innovating the model of the values education of university students from five aspects, that is, the subjectivity of the values clarification requests that the educators should become the models for the students, the invisibility of the values clarification asks that the educational methods should be innovated, the practical character of the values clarification claims the update of the educational content, the comprehensive quality of the values clarification demands the joint effect of the education environment, the adaptability of the values clarification requires that the education mediators should give their full play.
