In the present study we considered the explicit and implicit occupational gender stereotypes, furthermore, we discuss the changeability of implicit occupational gender stereotypes by means of subliminal evaluation conditioning. The entire research consists of three parts. The first study is discussing about the explicit occupational gender stereotypes and the difference between male and the female. Using the explicit occupational gender stereotypes questionnaire, total 140 undergraduate students were tested. The results showed: (1) Explicit occupational gender stereotypes is an objective reality; Participants consider men are suitable for professional and technical occupations; women are suitable for service occupations. (2) As a whole, the strength of male's occupational gender stereotypes was significantly stronger than that of female's.The second study use the Implicit Association Test to test the undergraduates' implicit occupational gender stereotypes, total 121 undergraduate students were tested. The results show: (1) There are significant implicit occupational gender stereotypes. Participants use professional and technical occupations associated with the male's name, use service occupation associated female's name.(2)There is no significant difference between male and female students on implicit occupational gender stereotypes. The third research explore the feasibility of use subliminal evaluative conditioning to change the implicit occupational gender stereotypes, total 68 undergraduate students were tested. The results show that implicit occupational gender stereotypes have a certain stability, but also has variability, the IAT can changed by the subliminal evaluative conditioning. In short, undergraduates have both explicit and implicit occupational gender stereotypes, but the implicit occupational gender stereotypes can be changed by subliminal evaluative conditioning. |
