The mission of missionary is to transmit Christianity, while several educated missionaries spontaneously or self-consciously get interested in Chinese education, when they carried out their historic missions of introducing or transmitting Chinese and western culture. They bring the western religion culture as well as advanced western technological and cultural knowledge to china, which had got communication with western culture. In the ideological emancipation and cultural communication of late Qing Dynasty, Timothy Richard was one of a number of well-known missionaries. Being a missionary, scholar and politician, he relieved the people in disaster, published the paper, established the school, translated many western books and made friends with influential Chinese officials. He had presided Guang Xue Hui, which published more than ten kinds of papers, over two thousand books and pamphlets included Wan Guo Gong Bao during the period of twenty-five years and became one of the largest publishing units. The advanced ideology was noted and approbated by the enlightened intellectuals through these publications, and also supported by many officials. In particular some of the books and articles, more is the education reform in modern china has had a profound impact.Shanxi University had been established by Timothy Richard, who brought in and transmitted more early the advanced western technology and science thinking in prior, which enkindled the fires of the modern scientific civilization in China and have impacted on modern education system reform and the construction of the new school system with the study of Timothy Richard's transformation from transmitting the Christianity to Western learning's propaganda and educational practice, the thesis also expounds the influence upon China brought by diffusion of Timothy Richard's western learning and educational mind.
