Football is the most popular game in the world. By comparing the Chinese and British football reports in Soccer Weekly, which is quite a popular football magazine, the thesis is trying to describe its characteristics and discover its advantages worth with the purpose of enlightening other researchers and media workers. The thesis mainly uses content analysis. The first chapter of the thesis discussed the background, purpose, value and design of the study. The second chapter briefly reviewed Soccer Weekly magazine. The third chapter compared the Chinese and British football reports with content analysis by comparing the quantities, types, sources, concerns and orientations of the reports. A further comparison in the head lines, content and pictures is implemented in the fourth chapter. The thesis discovered that the reports in Soccer Weekly are not partial even though the levels of Chinese and British football are quite different. The reports of British football are slightly more, but mainly in the type of short news. The numbers of the longer ones are extremely closed. Most of the reports are written by the magazine's own journalists.Besides, the main concerns of the reports between Chinese and British football are also similar. In addition, most of the reports are impartial and objective. But the Chinese football reports criticized the administrative institutions rather than individuals while the British football reports are opposite. Some differences also exist in the headlines and pictures of the reports between Chinese and British football. Last but not the least, the Chinese football reports seldom concerned the private life of the individuals and featured the sexual attraction of the female images in the relevant pictures while the British football reports did not. Generally speaking, although there are some differences between the Chinese and British football reports, the frameworks are quite similar. The differences usually stemmed from the proximity of the reports'objects. But some of the British football reports did introduce the cultural background as a supplement. The author believed that, most of the reports of Chinese and British football are impartial. Besides, the advantages in Soccer Weekly includes reasonable choices of the reports'types, logical agenda setting, proper strategies for different content, effective balance between objectivity in reporting and perspicuity in expressing as well as necessary humanistic care. However, some improvement is also needed. For example, the form of British football reports is a little bit diverse. The quality of Chinese football reports can be higher if more pictures and diagrams are used.
