Primary and secondary students are the next generation of the motherland, who carry the future and hope. On this basis, the State proposed to promote the comprehensive development of students that is De Zhiti approach to teaching. As an important component of the students'all-round development, the status of sports in the primary and secondary schools is gradually increasing. Gymnastics, as a sport easy-to carry out which plays a great role in physical and mental development of students, has long been considered as an important content of China's primary and secondary physical education. However, numerous studies have shown that gymnastics in the primary and secondary schools tended to be marginalized, that more and more schools have reduced or even abolished the Gym Class. At the same time, there is a downward trend of the interest in gymnastics in both the teachers and the students. Ministry of Education statistics report also showed that the current physical condition of China's primary and secondary students is declining. Therefore, the objective understanding of the current status of teaching in primary and secondary schools gymnastics and putting forward countermeasures and suggestions targeted the corresponding condition are necessary.In this study, Changchun public elementary schools are as the research object. By making interviews and surveys of students and PE teachers in 3-6 grade of primary school, the author has made a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the status quo of gymnastics teaching carried out by public elementary schools in Changchun City. Through the explore of issues as the sports teacher qualification, gymnastics facilities and equipment, teachers and students attitude and understanding of gymnastics, as well as progress of Guangbo Cao in public elementary schools of Changchun City, the author finds that, at present, the overall quality of physical education teachers in public primary schools is good, while, there is a lack of venues and equipment, the gymnastics classes is not of good quality. On top of those, the students show enthusiasm neither to gymnastics nor to Guangbo Cao, but as a matter of fact, the quality of their Guangbo Cao is excellent. Finally, the PE teachers do not show a high recognition to the text books of gymnastics. Based on those studies, this paper made a certain number of targeted measures and recommendations, so as to make contribution to the development of gymnastics teaching in primary schools in Changchun City.
