In a unitary multinational country, how to deal with nationality relation has always been attracted the attention of many official leaders because this has a great impact on a nation's unity and is concerned by people of each nationality. In addition, it has an influence on social stability and prosperity. Therefore, as an important research field reflecting inner relation between different nationalities, mixed marriages between nationalities is naturally becoming a popular subject for many scholars to investigate and study.Mixed marriage between nationalities is not only concerned with combination of individuals between male and female, but also represents the cultural and social background of the two nationalities. If the two nationalities have a tense relation and are even hostile to one another, the contact between their members is absolutely restricted by many external factors. As usual, it is rare for their members of both sides to build a love relation or get married. It is possible to appear a large scale of mixed marriages between different nationalities if one or more of the following conditions are fulfilled: the two nationalities unite with one another; they have a smooth cultural communication; there is no language obstacle between their members; there is no religional conflict or they can bear one another's religion customs or there is no absolute exclusion to each other's religion; They have no prejudice and discrimination to each other; national group and family members of both sides do not hold a opposing opinion on mixed marriage. From this point of view, mixed marriage is closely related to the friendly and harmonious relation between nationalities. When mixed marriage rate between nationality groups is up to 10 percent, it is regarded as nationality relation between them remaining good.China is a unitary multinational country. Through long term development and contact, people of different nationalities live in a pattern of compact community or mixed community. Within such a living pattern, different nationalities influence each other, are mixed with each other and even conduct a close relation with each other. The phenomenon of mixed marriage between nationalities has a long history. At present, national minority areas are greatly influenced by Han majority and other foreign cultural shock. Most nationalities are undergoing many unexpected changes and characterized by new features.Jalaid Banner is located in the northeast part of Hingan League of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on the south slope of Big Hingan Mountain and on the west coast of Nenjiang River. It belongs to trans-belt area from Hingan Mountain to Nenjiang Plain. Jalaid Banner is a home to 17 nationalities such as Mongolian, Han, Hui, Korean, Manchu, etc. among which the population of Mongolian and Han accounts for 41 percent and 56.6 percent of the entire population respectively. This area is characterized by Mongolian as main community and Han as major community. In daily life, Mongolian minority and Han majority have a common and frequent communication between one another. Mixed marriage is a very common phenomenon between them. Therefore, it is reliable to study mixed marriage phenomenon between two different nationalities. The study of mixed marriage can truly reflect nationality relation between Mongolian minority and Han majority in such a half-agricultural and half-animal domestic area as Jalaid Banner. This thesis has mainly adopted methods of observing, joining, interviewing and questionnaire. Choosing Jalaid Banner of Inner Mongolia Hingan League as a research spot, this thesis makes a detailed analysis of mixed marriage situation between Mongolian minority and Han majority in this area. In Chapter Three, the author attempts to discuss the factors infecting Mongolian and Han mixed marriages from the perspective of community and individual aspect. Chapter Four explores the effect of Mongolian and Han mixed marriages on population, language, and culture and nationality relation between them. Through long term contact and communication, Mongolian minority and Han majority of Jalaid Banner influence each other and have set up a harmonious nationality relation. Thus it will become common to possess mixed marriages between minority and Han majority, the divergence between them become smaller and smaller. Under such a developing tendency, it deserves for us to consider how to deal with mixed marriage between nationalities and protect and develop traditional culture of minority nationalities.
