The study of social change has always been one of the core contents in sociologicalresearch. With this tradition, this article continues to explore the marriage payments involvedmarriage relationship in towns from the point of marriage practice. This paper holds that it ismore favorable to the study of social change from the family point of view which is thebalanced perspective that can be the joint of macro-level and micro-level. Therefore,selecting "Marriage Payments" as the subject can provide a unique perspective to study thesocial life of Chinese towns.Chapter One introduces the theme of the article, and explains the “Marriage Payments”.Chapter Two of the paper mainly introduces Jingxing’s background information and thecustom of local marriage ritual. Chapter Three of the article elaborates the significance of thebride-price, it holds that bride-price is a dynamic practice process which is not only restrictedby social structure but also implicitly contains the subjective initiative of performers,highlighting the performer especially the bridegroom’s independence and initiative. ChapterThree also analyses its significance of the trousseaus, focusing on the bride’s remarkablefunction in trousseau. The paper discusses on the subject of the change of social life ofaiming at the strength of the rising offspring in the town. The independence of economy andthe change of idea is thought to be the most important reasons to the strength of risingoffspring, analyzing the performance characteristics of the young generation in the love mode,the standard of the mate selection, the distance of marriage and the decision-making power offamily affairs. In the last part, it summarizes the main conclusions.The paper comes to the conclusion that marriage payment practice has experienced thechange process from marriage payment to marriage endowment, from service help andmaterial gifts to monetary payment.
