This dissertation researches on Hui-Han intermarriage in ethnically scattered and mixed areas in North China region. The fieldwork Baigou town of Gaobeidian county of Baoding city in Hebei province, which situated in North China Plain, is a typical case in central and eastern China. At the same time, Baigou is a well-known commercial town, which economy is developing fast and rural urbanization is advancing. Based on this realistic background, this dissertation focuses on Hui-Han intermarriage of Baigou. Except the introduction and the conclusion, the full text has four chapters.The first part makes a brief introduction of the background and significance of the subject selection, domestic and overseas research status, and the research methods.Chapter 1 first introduces the general situation of Baigou town, which involves the natural and humanistic environment, and the history of Baigou, then it introduces the origin and development of the Hui nationality in Baigou.The next three chapters are status investigation and analysis.Chapter 2 analyzes the impact factors of Hui-Han intermarriage. The macro-factors include two ethnic groups’merge degree in living pattern, economy and culture; the medium measures include attitudes of family elder, family education and Hui community influence; the micro-factors include personal schooling attainment, income level friendship network and marriage concepts.Chapter 3 discusses the interaction between Hui-Han intermarriage and the family relationship and ethnic relationship. For the husband and wife, there relationship becomes feministic relatively in the new period, the family status of women improved; more importantly, members can create a tolerant and harmonious mixed family culture. In the terms of ethnic relation, this part includes the history of national contact and the evaluation of two ethnic people on there relationship.Chapter 4 analyzes the identification of the Han wife or husband and children born in Hui-Han intermarriage family, and it also describes the ethnic identity of the Hui nationality in Baigou town in terms of daily life, national history, religious belief, marriage and funeral customs. Even though the Hui culture is impressed deeply by the Han culture, but customs and habits characterized by Islam are still the foundation to maintain the Hui identity, the weakening of religion belief and ignorance of national history depends on education of elite class and personal active learning.The last part is conclusion. It involves three subsection:differences of Hui-Han intermarriage in different districts, relationship between the Hui floating population and Hui-Han intermarriage, cultural acculturation and cultural consciousness.
