Extraction And Location Of Culture Characteristics In Fast-Emerging City

Culture is the gene and soul of urban, which arising from its image and spirit. One city can get considerable economic and social benefits by its culture, which can bring upper hand in Post-industrial era, and famous in the world. More and more people find the cultural significance in city, and more and more cities began to create the unique cultural image for city brand promotion. Relative to the long history and rich cultural resources, the features of a new city are not clear. However, the new city is characterized by rapid economic development and improvement in quality of life.Then the city come into the peak period of construction. City policy makers and the public's attention start to shift from the single image of modern city to concerning the cultural quality and urban characteristics. There has some contradiction between ideal and reality in urban development. As a person's external qualities arising from internal self-cultivation, we can recognize the city image to achieve the unity of reality and the ideal, through finding roots of urban culture. However, it has close contact with characteristics and culture which can not be copied by other cities.The article has five parts, which adopting the logical order of problem-rising, problem-analyzing, problem- solving to shape the structure. In part one, author introduce the research background, framework, purpose, significance and status,as problem-rising. In part two and three, author studies intensive properties, elements, characteristic and function of urban cultural. Based on many examples of urban planning, the article researches the cultural source, vector, extraction, location and inheritance,which could be benefit to shape the image of fast-emerging city, as problem-analyzing. In part four, there have some methods of combining theory and practice to bring up the strategy of cultural extraction and location for fast-emerging city, as problem- solving. In part five, article take the case of waterfront conceptual design in Song Yuan to explain the operating method against extraction and location of cultural characteristics.
